RS300 Development Day at Whitefriars Sailing Club

by Pete Mackin 22 Mar 11:42 GMT 11-12 March 2023

RS300 sailors have got off to a great start in 2023. Our second event, another successful Development Day, was hosted by Whitefriars Sailing Club in the Cotswolds.

These events offer the opportunity for RS300 Class Association members to benefit from coaching by a member of the Gold fleet. The events are run as cheaply as possible at host clubs that offer a warm welcome and cheap accommodation options where required. What's more, attendance comes with a £20 discount for the year's national championships at Dovey YC 7-10 September sponsored by Noble Marine and Allen!

On this occasion, Pete Mackin provided the coaching, enhanced with video footage, and detailed debriefs. Following a group discussion on what everyone wanted to get out of their time, this event had a particular focus on control settings and boat handling. What followed were some intense and tailored sessions on the water, with time given 1-2-1 with each boat. Feedback from these sessions has been great, with individuals showing real and rapid improvement to skills they can apply to the boat at their club and on the Rooster National Tour (RNT).

The RS300 Demo boat will be available at all of our Development Days and RNT events. The Development Days in particular offer the perfect opportunity to have a go in a safe environment and experience the RS300 with a coach alongside; pushing you to get the very best out of the boat and leave you wanting more.

Interested in getting involved? Get in touch via our RS300 Class Association Secretary - or join and ask a question on our Facebook group.

Take a look at the clips on our YouTube channel to see what we've been up to so far!

Our next Development Days are:

  • 1-2 April at Stewartby Water Sports Club
  • 8-9 July at Bolton Sailing Club
  • 12-13 August at Stokes Bay Sailing Club

Our first RS300 racing event for 2023 is the Harken RS Sprints, part of the RS300 Rooster National Tour on 22-23 April at Rutland SC. Online entry is open now here: www.rs300.org/championships/index.asp?eid=2383

As ever, more information about the boat and our great calendar of events for 2023 can be found at www.rs300.org

Final call for entries! Third time does appear to be a charm for the 3-fleet regatta, previously cancelled with Covid, a fuel crisis and storms. We've put our names down for some excellent weather and additional tokens in the meter to ensure some classic Stokes Bay sunshine. Posted on 30 Aug 2022
