The Merlin Rocket Owners' Association is delighted to announce Allen Brothers as the title sponsor of the 2023 Inland Championships and the new South East Series launching this year.

The Allen Inland Championships will be hosted over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of April at Llangorse Sailing Club in Wales, and Allen has kindly donated some wonderful prizes which will be presented across the fleet. Entries are to open soon!

The Allen South East Series is a new series that is open to all, but with a particular focus on encouraging club sailors to travel locally and compete alongside other Merlin Rockets. However, you don't have to be based in the South-East to attend, everyone is welcome. There are five events across the year with three to count, including one sea event and one inland. Your overall position in this series will also count as the fourth score for those looking to qualify for the Craftinsure Silver Tiller.

On speaking with Ben Harden, Head of Marketing at Allen as to why Allen has chosen to sponsor the class he commented "The Merlin Rocket is an excellent representation of the sailing scene in the UK. It's a British boat focused on development, performance and fun. So, as a British company striving to develop the best performance sailing hardware, we feel the two parties align pretty well." We think so too Ben!

The Allen South-East Series events are as follows:

  • 19th March - Wembley Sailing Club
  • 7th May - Fishers Green Sailing Club
  • 14th May - Brightlingsea Sailing Club
  • 8th October - Hampton Sailing Club
  • 14th October - Stone Sailing Club (including prize-giving and social evening)
"A huge thank you to Allen for sponsoring the series, and the wonderful prizes which will be presented across the fleet at the five events and the overall prize-giving at Stone Sailing Club on 14th October. We are excited to see this new series unfold," commented Paul Dean, Allen South East Series co-ordinator.

To reward participation a jib raffle will be running alongside the series, this is kindly sponsored by HD Sails, GK Engineering and Langley Construction Consultants. For every event a boat participates in they will be given a prize draw ticket and at the end of the year one lucky competitor will be taking home a new HD Sails jib.
