OptiOrange international Optimist class regatta at Real Club Nautico Valencia - Day 3

by RCNV Press 4 Mar 2023 22:18 GMT 2-5 March 2023

Despite closing the day with three races completed in the Gold group, the rest close with two, which has greatly affected the results in general, especially in the last race.

The American Travis Greenberg and the Polish Antonina Dziekanska take the lead of the Optiorange after closing the first of the finals. Both take over from the Spaniards Joan Domingo (CN Cambrils) and Blanca Ferrando (RCN of Valencia) who have not had their best day, especially the Valencian since in the last race saw an error in the tactical decision, and has made him fall to 80th place. His first two results today were 17-11.

The Catalan has fared somewhat better, although his 4-37-28 results leave him out of the title, he still has options as he is third with 49 points. Greemberg, the provisional leader, has 27 points after today's 1-25-1. The silver goes to Leo Zabell (CNM Benalmádena) who has gone from strength to strength. In the first round he did not exceed 29th place, improved with a 10 in the second round and showed his best version in the last round with a 2.

The reigning champion, Blanca Ferrando, is 10 points behind the Polish Dziekanska which has 65, scoring 8-9-60 (the latter is her worst discard), so her margin over the Spanish is short, so everything will be decided this Sunday. Both are very tight, in terms of their numbers in their respective lockers. A mistake tomorrow could swing the title to one side or the other. What is certain is that Dziekanska is already virtual U13 champion.

The Ukrainian Olha Lubianska, for her part, has almost assured the bronze medal in the women's division. She is third with 104 points, compared to 75 points for Blanca Ferrando. Lubianska signed a BFD in the first round and then she has two good results: 3-16.

As for the U13, provisional podium for the Turkish Mehmet Erkut Budak, followed by the Estonian Robert Matt and Antonio Lopez (RCR Cartagena). In the women's fleet and next to Dziekanska are placed Mª Antonia Peñalver (CN Mar Menor) and the Ukrainian Ahnieshka Madonich.
