International Moth Worlds to be held in New Zealand - December 2024 - Manly Sailing Club

After a recent decision by the International Moth Class Association, Manly Sailing Club has been announced as the host of the 2024 Moth World Championship, in partnership with the NZ International Moth Class Association.
The Moth Worlds is one of the premier yachting events on the calendar, attracting the worlds best sailors in most disciplines to test themselves and develop their skills in the one of the fastest and most exciting classes. Recent champions are Dylan Fletcher, Tom Slingsby, Paul Goodison and Peter Burling, all of whom are also Olympic Champions.
The Manly Sailing Club is one of the most active sailing clubs in New Zealand, with racing and training in dinghies and all kinds of foiling craft happening almost every day. The sailing waters off Manly are some of the best in the world, with clear water, regular good breeze and predominately flat water.
The organising committee has been convened to create the event, which is intending to run world class racing and a classic, kiwi style event which will be remembered by all for years to come.
Chaired by Harold Bennett, the committee has representation from Manly SC and the NZ Moth Class, with expertise in regatta management, Int Moth racing, sponsorship and business.
The committee includes:

- Barry Thom - Commodore Manly SC,
- Sir Russell Coutts - President Manly SC,
- Sam Barnett - President NZ International Moth Class Assoc.,
- Mike Bullot, Graeme Sutherland & Stu Goodes - NZ International Moth Class committee.
Mike, Stu and Graeme have six Moth Worlds experience between them.
The month of December coincides with lulls in the Olympic, Americas Cup and Sail GP circuits along with very good sailing weather in Auckland. This should result in the best sailors in the world competing against the stars of the future, in some of the best sailing conditions in the world.
