After recently arriving in Sydney earlier this year, Max Klink’s Botin 52 Caro had one week of sailing and two offshore races to their name. Since then, they have delivered the ultimate sailing masterclass.
As outsiders, the crew had no illusions about how hard it would be to be the first 52 to Hobart, but they succeeded in achieving it. Caro arrived in Hobart ahead of all other 52s at 1049 AEDT on the morning of the 28th of December, nearly 20 minutes ahead of Warrior Won (USA).
Three weeks ago, Doyle Sails designer and internationally renowned professional sailor Justin Ferris, who has been instrumental throughout the entire design and build process, said that this race was a key driver for building this boat the way they have. Built to maximise performance in diverse weather conditions and to be the first 52 to Hobart in the world's most extensive and competitive offshore 52 fleets.
Doyle Sails inventories were also powering the first two 100fters into Hobart - Andoo Comanche who took line honours, and missed the race record by three hours, and second placed Law Connect.
