This weekend took place the 38th edition of the already traditional Christmas Race, which brought together around 250 sailors of all ages at the Clube Naval de Cascais, for a championship that was for many the last of this year.

Although on Saturday only two of the three scheduled races were held, on Sunday the weather conditions allowed the rest of the program to be carried out as planned, with the wind blowing around 10 knots and some Atlantic Swell.

In the Optimists, the fleet of younger sailors that had more than 80 participants, the winner was Bernardo Neto, while Leonor Lopes finished in first place in the female classification, 6th overall. Also worthy of mention is Francisco Quartin and Maria Nunes, who won the Under-12 male and female categories.

The ILCA fleet also had a strong participation, with more than 50 sailors distributed by classes ILCA 4, 6 and 7. In the ILCA 4, Carlos Charabat won, after scoring bullets in four out of the five races, and Mafalda Silva won 1st female (7th overall). In the ILCA 6, the Olympic sailor Sara Carmo won the championship, and in the ILCA 7, the victory went to Lourenço Mateus, who won the three races of the last day.

In the 420, the local duo formed by Francisco Uva Sancho and José Vozone led throughout all championship and ended up confirming their favourites tag, followed by the female crew of Beatriz Cintra and Rita Munhá.

In the SB20 class, everything was decided in the last race, with the female crew of Francisca Barros, Joana Azevedo, Mafalda Pires de Lima and Luísa Peres winning. Finally, in the Finns, Jorge Pinheiro de Melo won four races, thus getting the better of the other competitors.
