Australia's most successful Olympic sailor, gold and silver medallist, Mathew Belcher OAM is to become a primary supporter of the popular Qoin Sail Paradise offshore regatta which is being staged by the Gold Coasts' Southport Yacht Club starting January 2.

This time though, Mathew won't be under sail, instead, he will host a special shore-side function that will play an important part in the success of the prestigious regatta - none more so than this year's Piper-Heidsieck champagne Luncheon scheduled for Monday, January 2, 2023.

"While Mathew will be taking a well-deserved rest from racing, he will be out to support Qoin Sail Paradise in many ways," said SYC Commodore Drew Jones. "He is looking forward to meeting the competing sailors and their families and friends at Southport Yacht Club after racing each day.

"Southport yacht club means a lot to my family and me," Mathew said. "I learned to sail here and now my young daughter is following in my wake".

Mathew was only seven years old when he competed in his first race at SYC, and now, many years and sailing accolades later, he still races in events at the club and has competed in numerous Sail Paradise Regattas. He is also Southport Yacht Clubs Sailing Ambassador!

"We as a club are extremely proud of Mathews's journey and successes over the years and are grateful for his involvement again in the upcoming Qoin Sail Paradise 2023", said Southport Yacht Clubs Vice Commodore of Sail Glen Burrell.

The Qoin Sail Paradise Social Program is set to sizzle and will include:

  1. The Aramex Welcome Beach Party (competitors only)
  2. The Piper-Heidsieck White Luncheon with guest speaker Mathew Belcher (open to the public)
  3. Lay Day Excursions to Dux Anchorage and Emerald Lakes Golf Course (competitors only)
Competitor Entry is now open for Qoin Sail Paradise 2023 (Entry link here) and we invite monohull, multihull and trailable yacht classes to Enter.
