Halloween Cup Optimist at Circolo Vela Torbole - Day 2

The second day of the Optimist Halloween Cup, organised by Circolo Vela Torbole with 614 helmsmen at the start, was nothing short of fantastic and certainly repaid the early rise needed to be on the water ready for the first scheduled start at 8:00. Twenty-five knots of northerly wind characterised the first three races of the junior batteries, with both water and air temperatures pleasant and certainly unusual for the season, which made for a perfect morning.
The FIV Race Committee did not waste a moment and quickly gave successive starts for the four junior batteries, until it had to surrender to the normal drop in the wind, which on the one hand allowed the younger cadets to go out, and on the other forced the second race of the same cadets to be interrupted because the wind had dropped completely, as it usually does in the late morning with the northerly wind. The juniors managed to finish with a total of four trials. The participants once again showed great preparation and tenacity and, except for a few, the gusts even exceeding 25 knots did not create any problems.
The junior fleets brought to a draw today with four races saw the first of the batteries very consistent: the first positions in the provisional ranking is absolutely international, with seven nations in the top 10 and with many helmsmen now faithful to the regattas on Garda Trentino: in the lead was the American James Pine (2-1-1), in a tie with the Ukrainian Sviatoslav Madonich; third the other American David Coates (1-1-4-2). Fourth the Swede Wigforss, followed by the Czech Tomes and the son of art Erik Scheidt, racing under the Lithuanian flag like his mother, but in fact residing on the upper Garda. And then again USA with Smith and the Danish Dam Hastgrup, up to ninth place with the first Italian, the "usual" Alberto Avanzini, from Centro Nautico Bardolino, followed by Tomaso Picotti (FV Peschiera).
First in the female category was the German Soldatova, twelfth overall. For the youngest cadets only one race ended regularly with once again the girls at the top of the ranking: in the lead Vittoria Berteotti (Fraglia Vela Riva), second Ginevra Rovaglia (CN Bardolino); third the Triestine Nicola Santoro (Triestina della Vela), followed by the holder of the organising club Circolo Vela Torbole Gionata Fravezzi. In the afternoon, a raffle and a sandwich party brought the day to a close in preparation for the last day, which will see everyone once again on the water from 8 a.m., trusting in the northerly wind that today provided at least four hours of fantastic wind.
