by Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association 30 Oct 2022 18:12 GMT 9-10 November 2022

Its less than two weeks the first Antigua and Barbuda Marine & Yachting Association (ABYMA) Industry Showcas will take place at the National Sailing Academy in English Harbour.

Slated for the 9th and 10th November, 2022, the ABYMA is getting very excited about the exhibitors who are coming on board to share information about their businesses and the opportunities within the Yachting Industry.

The Showcase will have four main sections of Exhibitors:

  • Learn to Sail and Professional Development - this will include dinghy sailing through to RYA and MCA courses required for a career in the industry.
  • The Underwater Zone - this will include Dive companies and underwater conservation.
  • The Skills Centre - to include yachting service companies, marinas & event organisers.
  • On the Water - to include opportunities to get a tour on board boats/yachts of different types including Team Antigua's Ocean Rowing Boat, an environmental tour of the harbour and a floating dock among other things.

Island Fusion Bar and Restaurant will be open both days for drinks, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks throughout the day.

Call for video footage

We will have a big video screen that will be on the stage playing video footage and imagery throughout the two days. Members are invited to send in their images and footage to Rana Lewis at by latest, Friday 4th November.

Volunteers

In order to make this event a success, additional volunteers are needed to assist throughout the week:

Monday - Tuesday 7th & 8th November - Set up crew
Wednesday - Thursday 9th & 10th November - Meeters and Greeters, Marshalls, Green Team
Friday 11th November - Pack down crew.
If you are interested in getting involved please email contact Kemoir on 736-7697 or email

Background

The purpose of the event is to present elements of the yachting industry to the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, the career opportunities within it, and to inspire more people to consider the industry as a career. To that end, the ABYMA also hopes to encourage people with transferable skills to consider making the move to yachting.

The timing of the event is planned to be just before the industry's peak season when businesses get extremely busy, but late enough that there will be some additional superyachts anchored in the Harbours, and in general the positivity and energy that comes with the build-up to the Antigua Yacht Show in December. With that in mind all visiting yachtsmen and women in Antigua are also invited to attend the event.

The Ministry of Tourism, The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority & The Ministry of Education has come on board to sanction the event and the committee is working with the Ministry of Education to arrange for fifth form and above students to visit the show over the course of two days as well as inviting the public and visiting yachtsmen to take the opportunity to network and learn about the businesses in the industry.

Private Schools and further education institutions who would like to get involved their students to experience the Showcase can get in touch with the Schools Committee by calling Ronald Greenaway at 775-3535.

Of the Showcase, President, Franklyn Braithwaite says, "We look forward to bringing everyone together and sharing information on the great opportunities within the industry and inspiring others to get involved."
