West Country Boat Repairs 2000 Millennium Series at Bough Beech Sailing Club

by Pete Vincent 19 Oct 2022 11:50 BST 15 October 2022

The final leg of the 2000 Millennium Series, sponsored by West Country Boat Repairs, at Bough Beech on Oct 15th proved to be an action packed open. In gusty 14-24 knots conditions there was never a dull moment, particularly downwind with constant place changing as boats hooked into fresh, big lumps of wind.

There were 4 races split into 2 sessions of 2 races with a lunch break. Now your reporter is not a fan of having a lunch break but the PRO played a blinder at Bough Beech as we sat in the club house watching a huge rain squall bring heavy rain for 30 mins and tree bending strong winds. We then promptly launched in the afternoon in pleasant sunshine and less gusty wind.

Simon and Katie Horsefield were the star bar team in dominant form downwind winning all 4 races although this makes it sound like they had an easy time of it. In all 4 races the lead changed hands on a regular basis and it was not until late on each race that they established leads. In fact in race 1 they won by approximately half a boats length from Rob and Sarah Burridge.

The fight for 2nd to 4th overall was very tight with the Burridge's 2nd by a point from Pete Vincent/Victoria Upton who were a point ahead of Paul Cullen/Verity Hopkins. In 5th overall were Jonathan and Matthew Bailey who were also first family boat on the Millennium Series. 6th place at Bough Beech was more than good enough to give Chris and Gill Jordan overall victory in the West Country Boat Millennium Series.

Many thanks to everyone at Bough Beech for a great events particularly the hard pressed lady in the galley.

The 2000 fun moves to Cardiff Bay YC on Oct 29/30 for the Welsh Championships.
