Rooster 29er EuroCup Hungary at Balatonfüredi Yacht Club

by International 29er Class 30 Sep 2022 20:39 BST 22-25 September 2022

74 competitors on 37 boats from five nations sailed the Rooster 29er Euro Cup and National Championships. The first three days started with a postponement, but racing took place on all but one day thanks to the patient work of the race committee.

Race officer Bence Kárpáti commented, "This year's 29er EuroCup was challenging, but I feel that the organising team and I were able to make effective use of the racing time windows and provide 10 good races".

With some late starts, sunset sessions and points tight at the top, Italian teammates Alex Demurtas and Santi Giovanni from Rivai took home the EuroCup Gold medal by 11 points. Second place went to Attila Tóth and Levente Borda, who also won this year's Hungarian Championship. Third place went to Ireland's Clementine van Steenberge and Nathan van Steenberge.

Boróka Fehér and Szonja Fehér are first year 29er competitors who managed to get on the top step of the podium in the U17 category. "It was not easy racing as the conditions required versatility and the field was strong thanks to the foreign teams. Maybe this is reflected in our result, we didn't always adapt to the changes well, but we were really happy to become Hungarian U17 Champions, Sonja winning her first title and me continuing my winning streak. As for our team, we are very happy and glad to be a part of it. We constantly motivate and push each other and we couldn't wish for a better coaching team."

We're glad so many of you participated and had a great time at this year's Rooster 29er EuroCup and National Championships, see you in October, Italy for the EuroCup Finals!
