Day 3 Master’s Division – Day 3 was a day of opposites, yesterday there was not enough wind and today there was too much! A cold front came in overnight dropping temperatures, but it brought strong winds.
Wind of 25-30 knots with a nasty sea state, created conditions unsafe for sailing. The forecast suggested the winds would moderate later in the day, so sailors were held on shore with a one-hour update schedule. It felt a bit like ground hog day, walking down to the flagpole every hour for the latest update.
On the water, the race committee worked tirelessly to monitor conditions, for a while it looked like the winds were starting to moderate but then it filled back in again. AP over A went up at 4:30 PM. Tomorrow's forecast suggests much lighter wind.
After three days, Cam OWEN/Susan GHENT (AUS) lead followed by European champions, Stefan GRIESMEYER/Caterina DEGLI UBERTI (ITA) and Darren SMITH/Claire BISGOOD (AUS).
Masters racing continues through September 18, when the next division starts.
