Tornado World Championships at Yacht Club de la Grande Motte - Day 4

by Yacht Club de la Grande Motte 3 Sep 2022 09:14 BST 27 August - 3 September 2022

Friday 09/2/2022, only one race was run today out of the two planned.

The first warning signal marking the scheduled start was given at 1:00pm according to the race instructions. However, a wind shift made it necessary to interrupt the starting procedure. A delay procedure on the water was therefore launched in order to set a new course in stabilized wind conditions.

The start of this race was nevertheless given as soon as possible (starting signal at 1:17 pm). The end of the race took place in windy conditions evolving towards a stormy character. All the boats were able to finish the race and were sent back to shore by the committee for obvious safety reasons.

For the anecdote, a small tornado was even observed at the tip of Espiguette.

The FRA 2 boat repeated its performance from the previous race by finishing in the lead. It is ahead of its main rival, the Greek boat GRE 11. This allows him to reduce the gap in the number of points with the latter in the overall ranking. The Australian boat AUS 3 completes the podium of the race and consolidates its third place in the general ranking.

Tomorrow, September, Saturday the 3rd, the program includes two races. The first warning signal (start of the procedure) is scheduled at 11:00 am while the last warning possible will not be given after 3:00 pm.

Finally, the prize-giving ceremony of this world championship will take place from 5pm followed by the closing ceremony in the presence of the Mayor, Stéphan Rossignol.
