International Canoe 'Not the Worlds' at the West Kirby Sailing Club Sailing Festival - Day 5

by Gareth Caldwell 31 Aug 2022 18:47 BST 27 August - 1 September 2022

'When only a few of us are left, we will feel an irresistible pull towards a far away land, to fight for The Prize' (The Highlander, Ramirez)

The far away land was the moored Committee boat in the middle of the Dee estuary. Tony Marston elevated himself from competitor to Pro, quoting: 'It's better to burn out than to fade away' (The Highlander, Kurgan).

As yesterday, the breeze tested the boat handling of all those gathered....the 180' wind shift now condensed into each leg of the course.

Dan and Steve sailed away from the largely stationary fleet. Crossing the finish line, Dan was heard to say: 'There can be only one' (The Highlander, Connor McLeod)

Whilst Steve was humming: 'Hey, it's a kind of magic' (The Highlander, Connor Mc Leod)

All boats returned to shore to prepare for The Gathering. All to play for with the top six boats separated by five points.
