Burnham Week 2022 - Day 4

Blustery and gusty conditions met the fleet as they went down river to Pile House area to start. Another foul tide beat start for all fleets saw close quarters racing.

Class One headed off up the Roach to Jubilee before heading back on a the foul tide beat to Inner Crouch looping up to Holliwell and back down to Holliwell Point. Slipstream and Cezanne who basically level rate on IRC were at the front match racing with Jackal in third on the water and Mantra in fourth struggling in the gusts at times.

At Holliwell Lizzie Brown in Slipstream rounded ahead of Cezanne to go to Holliwell point. Lizzie Brown won on corrected time from Cezanne, Philip Collard.

Class Five also went up the Roach to Jubilee and then headed down to Inner Crouch and Clarks. Daryl Mylroie on Eclipse was leading in the Maxi 1000 with Grace and Danger close behind. The 707 entered by Bryan Haynes rounded with Sandhopper and enjoyed some boat for boat racing down towards the mark with the 707 managing to get round ahead of Ernie Breavington's Parker 27 Sandhopper. Grace and Danger, despite a challenging race with gear failure, won on corrected time from Eclipse.

Class Six saw Lucy Lee Ian Keam George and Mick Hill's Ningaloo at the front, being the highest rated in class, racing close together and fighting hard for the on the water lead, but Peter Hooper's Contessa 26 Trinco flew down the first foul tide beat really enjoying the windy conditions. Lucy Lee won again from Ningaloo with Trinco third.

The Dragons were again under the North Shore foul tide beating down to Inner Crouch and were crossing tacks and working hard to chase the lead boat. Still Crazy, Ian Gray, won with Page Boy XI Clive Page second and Beauty and the Beast Perer Marchant third.

The large Squib fleet scattered all over the river for their beat down to Clarks before heading to Holliwell and up to Crow. Mickey Wright in Spoof led at Holliwell with King Cnut, Jono Brown just behind in second. Alex Porteous crewing for Mickey threw their spinnaker out quickly before the gybe to get it working and pulled out a little here from King Cnut as their spinnaker work was a little slower. Ray Apthorp in Slinky was in third at the Holliwell rounding.

At the finish Spoof was pipped to the line by King Cnut with Jono Brown taking the win Spoof second and Slinky Ray Apthorp third.

The RCODs had two races scheduled today and in the first race the fleet who were quite spread out. Martin Makey took the lead and won in Corinna with Justin Waples in Cormorant second. Race two was also won by Corinna.

The large RBOD fleet headed down to Rubber Ball before going up the Roach. RB 14, Beryl, Simon Hollington led at the first mark followed by Stephen Herring in Red Jacket. David Smith in Amanda came first with Red Jacket second and Beryl third.
