Miracle National Championship 2022 at Dabchicks Sailing Club - Day 4

by Hannah Metcalfe-Smith 25 Aug 2022 20:04 BST 22-26 August 2022

Day 4 for the Miracle Nationals at Dabchicks Sailing Club got off to a damp start, with a forecast for torrential rain from 10.00 - 13.00 according to the Met Office. With a slightly delayed start, the Miracles got onto the water around 10am.

Race 7

The Willars (3834) lead the way around the windward mark closely followed by the Fryetts (4011), Graham Watts and Helen Jacks (4114) then the Smith's (2551). Despite close jostling throughout the race the Fryetts weren't able to work their way past the Willars. The breeze kept up relatively well, with very little rain.

Abbey and Tom passed Graham and Helen on the second reach of the triangle. At the bottom of the sausage on the next lap, Abbey Mumford and Tom Hirst caught the Smith's right up, only for them to ease away again on the beat.

Elsewhere in the fleet, the Copseys had spinnaker trouble and couldn't use their kite. The Metcalfe-Smiths moved up three places on the final beat by taking a long tack on the right side of the course.

Race 8

With light airs and more rain showers, but no torrential rain as forecast, there was a change at the top of the order with the Neutebooms (2007) rounding the windward mark first, closely followed by Andrew Robinson and Hannah Mumford (4123), with the Fryetts in third.

Racing was tight throughout the pack and the Willars managed to work their way up through the fleet to finish in third, with the Neutebooms dropping down to second and the Fryetts coming up to first place.
