Day 1 of the Allen 2022 Enterprise National Championship started with a light South Westerly air causing a delay until some steady pressure built, giving 5 to 8 knots in time for a 2:30pm start.

Matt and Ivan Jaycock were our pathfinders and the fleet got away first time with Jeremy and Becca Stephens leading on the windward rounding followed by Darren and Hayley with Martin and Isobel third.

Racing was tight across the whole fleet with the tide to the left balance by the wind bend on the right creating opportunities on the beat and the run.

Darren and Hayley played the run to perfection picking the left of the run and gybing at the right time to break through Jeremy and Becca to take a lead they would manage to the end of the race.

Race 2 switched to a line start. The increasing tide added to the fleets eagerness and the first attempt ended in a general recall. Attempt 2 was under a black flag and everyone behaved with no one straying on course side.

Darren and Hayley had a great start in the middle of the line and worked well up the first beat to create a lead they would maintain for the whole of the race.

The battle for 2nd continued for the whole race with Jonathan and Matt swapping with Jeremy and Becca multiple times before Jeremy and Becca eventually won out and completed their brace of 2nd places for the day.

The day was sponsored by Noble Marine Insurance who subsidised entries for all our first-time entrants and youth sailors, and GOAT Marine who provided prizes for the day.

GOAT Marines Steve Badham travelled all the way to Tenby to dish out the prizes and congratulate the days winners who happened to already be using the new GOAT Flyaway pole and tiller, at least they now have spares the rest of us can borrow.
