2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships at Vilamoura Sailing - Day 2

by Katie Olsen 17 Aug 2022 05:01 BST 13-20 August 2022

Two races were completed on Tuesday at the 2022 ILCA 4 Youth World Championships, hosted by Vilamoura Sailing. With another day of beautiful sailing conditions, 12-19 knots of wind, the top sailors are separated by just a few points. After completing four races, they are now allowed a dropped race in their scores. The Italians hold four of the six spots atop both leaderboards.

In the boys division, Italy's Massimiliano Antoniazzi has held his lead after finishing with a first and sixth today. Teammate Salvatore Falchi rose to second overall with his first- and ninth-place finishes. However, Falchi has five net points, as does Israel's Omer Vered Vilenchik and Greek Panagiotis Spanos. Competition is tight heading into the third day of racing.

In the girls division, Italian Maria Vittoria Arseni finished with another first place and a fourth today to stay in first overall. Croatia's Petra Marendic has slid into second overall now that the dropped race has come into play. Marendic had a UFD in the first race yesterday, but has since placed third, second, and first in the following races. Italy's Ginevra Caracciolo has the same net points as Marendic, after finishing with a consistent first and fourth today.

Two races are scheduled for Wednesday, with the first warning signal at 14:00. For results and more event information, see 2022ilca4youth.ilca-worlds.org.
