29er World Championships 2022 at El Balís, Spain - Day 5

Just nine points separate the top five overall in the 29er World Championship, El Balis, as the regatta progresses into the final day of racing. Italians Alex Demurtras and Giovanni Santi regain the top spot, four points ahead of Argentinian mixed team Dogui and Vicky Van Avermaete, closely chased by their country mates Maximo Videla and Tadeo Funes De Rioja.
The wind on day 5 of racing was from the east between 7 and 9 knots and with a late afternoon storm, two races were held in each fleet.
Siblings Hedvig and Hugo Liljegren have sailed a consistent final series, also putting themselves in medal winning contention, just eight points off the lead with three races scheduled on the final day of racing.
Sisters Paula and Isabel Laiseca (RCN Gran Canaria) are leading the Women's category in the 29er World Championships, sitting in seventh place overall and top Spanish crew ahead of the Irish team Lucía Cullen and Alana Twomey who lie in 12th position overall and second women. Third is now the Japanese Manase Ichihashi and Rinko Goto who are in 21st overall.
In the male Under 17 category, the Hungarians Soma Kie-Szölgyémi and Sámuel Juháez are ahead, in eighth place overall, the Americans Finn and Pearce Olsen second, and the French Tom Goron and Mael Clochard third. In the female Under 17 category, Lucia Cullen and Alana Twomey lead, followed by Martina Lodos Falcon and Martina Diaz-Salguero and third Boroo and Szonja Feher.
