iQFoil Youth and Junior International Games in Torbole - Day 3

by Elena Giolai 2 Aug 2022 22:49 BST 31 July - 4 August 2022

Third day of regattas at Circolo Surf Torbole for the IQFoil Youth and Junior International Games only for the youth under 19 category, which in the early afternoon held more slalom races, bringing the total number of races to 10 for both males and females.

The slalom sprint races, played mostly at the start, cost some athletes disqualifications for starting early, a risk that is part of the game and above all part of the discipline. So only the older youths were in the water, with the leaders of the two categories for men and women remaining unchanged: the Circolo Surf Torbole athlete Manolo Modena retains the lead in the standings, with a 5-point advantage over Britain's Charlie Dixon after two more firsts and a fifth, discarded with the inclusion of the second discard in the 10 races held so far.

At 10 points behind the second is the other Briton Monaghan. Italy is also in the lead among the women with Sofia Renna (Circolo Surf Torbole), who is stretching out over the Czech Pinosova, who is still a formidable competitor, given the two firsts in the last two trials in lighter winds. There are currently 11 points separating the first two, while the Israeli Millo remains 5 points behind the second.

The under-17s have not raced, but will be called on the water on Wednesday morning at 8:00, possibly to race course racing if the wind conditions are sufficient. This will be followed by the youths, who are scheduled to race the first regatta of the day from 9.30am. In the afternoon, a possible start at 13:30 for the marathon, which is worth double points: here the athletes' endurance will be tested on a course lasting around one hour.
