J/70 class at Cowes Week 2022 - Day 3

by Louay Habib 1 Aug 2022 21:31 BST 30 July - 2 August 2022

Three days into the J/70 UK Class mini-series leaders are emerging for the regatta which is Round Six of the 2022 Grand Slam Series. Just one day remains with the overall winners to decided tomorrow Tuesday 2nd August.

Racing at Day 3 of Cowes Week was subject to an AP/2 with the promise of breeze later in the day - it was definitely worth the wait. Two Races were completed in a building gradient south-westerly breeze enhanced by sea breeze as they day went on. With wind over tide for the day. The Solent delivered again with fantastic conditions in the afternoon.

Competition is as intense as it always is in the J/70 Class. Today's winners in the Open Division were Nick Phillips Chaotic and Martin Dent's Jelvis. But the showdown of the day was in the Corinthian Division; Race 7 went to the Bettums & Simpsons racing Dad's n Lads by just two seconds from Max Clapp's Little J. Third in the Corinthians for Race 7 was Annabelle Body's Boystorous, just five seconds behind Little J!

After eight races, Graham Clapp's Jeepster is the new leader in the Open Division, even though Jeepster is yet to win a race. Tim Ryan's Aussie team racing Vamos is second by a bee's whisker from fellow Aussie Sam Haynes racing Celestial.

After eight races, Jack Davies Yeti is the leader, Yeti has been top Corinthian boat in four races. Second is Little J, and third is David McLeman's Offbeat.

Three races are scheduled tomorrow, to complete the J/70 Mini-Series at Cowes Week.
