Sailed in conjunction with the world-famous Travemunde Sailing Week, the 2022 J/22 German Open saw a lot of great racing for the eight teams from Germany, Netherlands, and France.
Eight races were sailed over the three-day event with the duel for the lead boiling down to just two protagonists- France vs. Germany!
In the end, it was Frenchman Reiner Brockerhoff's FRA 1444 team (Christoph Declerque and Charles Michaux) that posted an enviable record of 1-2-1-1-2-1-1 for 9 pts net to win the gold medal. Losing that battle in the last two races was the German Holger Schmitt on GER 1390 with his crew of Sabine Schonfeldt and Thomas Hanf. Their tally of 1-2-1-2-1-2-2 for 11 pts net was equally impressive, but just not good enough, and had to settle for the silver medal.
Rounding out the podium was German Lasse Paland on GER 1384 with crew of Ben Zimmermann and Lars Christiansen. They just eked out a bronze medal with a record of 3-3-5-3-3-5-4 for 26 pts net. The balance of the top five includes Dutchman Tim Arne Kohlschmidt on NED 69 with the team of Peer & Tienes Englert in fourth place and the German Thomas Losch on GER 1640 with crew of Ekaterina Lenskaya and Emmanouela Filippidi.
