The titans of model yacht racing will do battle for the 99 year old Scrutton Cup at Fleetwood from Sunday 31st July to Fri 5th Aug. Racing Vane A class model yachts, they will attempt to win this almost 100 year old trophy, as so many have before them.

This event was the 'World Championship' until the Radio Worlds started in 1975, and reached a zenith of competitors in 1973 at Fleetwood, with 56 boats taking part.

This year we have a modest entry of 17 boats and around 40 people involved, but the competition will be just as hard and with three World Champions and countless National Champions in the mix.

The trophies on display above are - from left to right - Jonnies Cup (most Beats to windward), Wing & Wing Cup (most downwind runs), Yachting Monthly Cup (Wed knock out event), Scrutton Cup (Overall winner), Dennis Lippett Cup (top junior).

With full days of racing on Sunday, Monday, Thursday & Friday, and the knockout competition on Wednesday, there's plenty to see.

Pay us a visit and see how free sailing works!

Vintage and Classic Marblehead racing at Fleetwood
Maybe the age of the skippers is catching up and sprinting is not the preferred option Normally we would have a fairly even split fleet from the two class of boats, sometimes favouring the Classic. This time we had a reversal with Vintage taking up the bulk. Maybe the age of the Skippers is catching up. Posted on 3 Jun
