Musto has launched four brand new Junior products in its Championship and Flexlite Alumin dinghy collections to coincide with the 2022 Allianz Youth World Sailing Championships. An all-new Long John, Long Sleeve Top, Smock and Aqua Top have been added to the 4-piece collection, ideal for competitive youth athletes.
The announcement follows the Youth Worlds in The Hague, The Netherlands. The British Youth Sailing Team competed against over 450 of the world's top youth sailors from 69 countries. As Official Clothing Supplier to the British Sailing Team, Musto kitted the young athletes out to ensure they were adequately prepared for the challenges of the competition.
Three years in the making with continuous design, development and testing with the British Sailing Team, the Flexlite Alumin range is designed to give dinghy sailors the edge over their competitors. New developments include an increase in the neoprene thickness to 3mm to give additional warmth and Musto's unique Alumin* fabric provides the thermoregulatory benefits of thicker and heavier neoprene in a lighter, more dynamic product.
"Supporting young sailors as they come through the ranks has always been important to us,'' said Nick Houchin, Musto's Head of Marketing. "Today's British Youth Squad are primed to be the Olympians of tomorrow and it is a privilege to support these talented athletes on their pathway to global success. Whether competing at a national level or just getting started in an Optimist, we want to ensure young sailors are race-ready with the highest standard of technical gear. The new Junior range will ensure they have the same level of comfort and protection as adult sailors."
The British Youth Squad achieved two podium finishes at the 2022 Youth Worlds. Charlie Dixon took the gold in the Male Windsurfing class and Santiago Sesto-Cosby and Leo Wilkinson sailed into second place in the Male Skiff class. Among the girls, Ella Geiger took fifth place in the Female Kiteboarding class and Lucy Kenyon took sixth place in the Female Windsurfing class. Overall, The British Youth Squad came in fourth place in the Nations Trophy rankings, narrowly missing out on podium placements, which were taken by Spain, France and Italy, in first, second and third place respectively.
