Round the Goodwins Race 2022 at Royal Temple Yacht Club

by Piers Hodges 17 Jul 2022 21:54 BST 17 July 2022

As a pre-cursor to Euromarine Insurance Ramsgate Week, the year's proceedings commenced with the iconic Round the Goodwins Race, a course of 28 miles around the historic sands.

The 37 entrants came from far and near and we were delighted to welcome back our friends from the Continent after the three-year hiatus. We wish to thank Miles & Barr who have sponsored today's race. They have been stalwarts of Ramsgate Week for so many years which is very much appreciated.

A steady breeze saw the fleet quickly spread around the course, until the leaders ran into a temporary patch of calm, allowing a re-bunching of the first IRC fleet. Royal Temple boat Assassin owned by Peter Jackson, squeaked line honours ahead of the John Barrett and Paul Woodward entry Stiletto. However, the class 2 boats had more than kept within touching distance, meaning that Mike and Jo Brand onboard Foxy took the combined IRC class on corrected time.
