There are now less than ten days to take advantage of the early entry discount for Allen Burton Week 2022. This year's edition of Burton Week (the National 12 class National Championships) takes place from 27th to 30th August at Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club.

The class have visited this excellent East Coast venue previously for open meetings and are looking forward to an excellent 1st Burton Week here. With camping, catering and a well stocked bar on site, all the facilities you may require for a comfortable stay are at the venue.

Racing

At Burton Week you can expect 7 races over 4 days, which is two races a day apart from the Sunday where the fleet will race for the Sir William Burton Cup. There is just one discard over the 4 days – so use it wisely!

Saturday – After a competitors briefing the fleet will launch to start Burton Week 2022, with two back to back races. Look out for the ‘Runners & Riders’ article nearer the time, but who will be on the pace? Don’t forget you can’t win a championship on the first day but you can increase or decrease your chances of it!

“Heart of Suffolk Sunday” – The Sir William Burton Cup will be raced for, in the revised format which was extremely popular with the competitors in 2021. The Sir William Burton Cup was gifted to the class in 1936 and has been raced for every year since then, apart from during World War 2, 2019 (no wind) and 2020 (Cancelled due to Covid-19 Pandemic). The cup is one of the oldest trophies in the UK Dinghy Scene and it is waiting for your name to be engraved on it!! There are plenty of prizes awarded throughout the fleet too, so if you’re only able to make one day of Burton Week, this is the day to pick!

Monday & Tuesday – Two races each day, held back-to-back.

Sponsors

We are delighted to welcome Allen back as the title sponsor for Burton Week this year and once again they have contributed generously to the overall prizes for the week and some Buddy prizes too. The ‘Heart of Suffolk Distillery’ are sponsoring the Sir William Burton Cup, with some excellent prize donations for the various trophies awarded after this race. As the event is part of the National 12 Dinghy Shack Series, there will also be spot and Buddy prizes available, courtesy of Dinghy Shack. Thanks also to BillBox, who are also providing sponsorship to the class this year.

Socials

Friday 26th - The FFSC bar will be open as the competitors begin to arrive at Burton Week 2022. Set up your tents on the green just behind the clubhouse, get your N12 weighed (if required) and relax into the evening with fellow competitors and supporters, whilst soaking up some East Coast sunshine!

Saturday 27th - The Sir William Burton Cup will be sponsored by ‘Heart of Suffolk Distillery’ this year and there is a free gin tasting session this evening, with discounted gin available for competitors and supports to buy during the tasting. Don’t forget that the first round of Buddy Prizes will be given out during the evening, so take this opportunity to get to know your Buddy Team. Each Buddy Team will consist of 3 teams from throughout the fleet, so helpful advice will be available to all!

Sunday 28th - Following the ‘Heart of Suffolk Sunday – Sir William Burton Cup” the fleet can look forward to Pimms (non-alcoholic options available) as they come ashore, before preparing for the Burton Dinner, which will be hosted by Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club. Don’t forget to get your nominations for the ‘Burton Brick’ and ‘Decanter Trophy’ in, as both of these awards will be presented during the Burton Dinner.

Monday 29th - The National Twelve Owner’s Association AGM for 2022 will be held in the clubhouse after racing, with beach games on offer for the whole fleet too. Further details will be available shortly.

Tuesday 30th - Burton Week 2022 will conclude with the Prize Giving, which will be held ASAP after the last race, allowing competitors to head home in good time.

All that is left to do now is get your entry in and support the class! If you’re short of a helm, crew or boat please get in touch with who will be able to arrange a helm, crew or boat for you!

See you at Felixstowe Ferry in August!
