With 59 entries keen to try out the venue for the Topper Nationals 2022 it was always going to be a competitive weekend of racing at WPNSA for the Topper Super South Championship. Originally conceived as a joint event for the Southern, South West and London & SE ITCA regions it was great to also see sailors from the Eastern and Midlands regions joining us for the weekend.

With a stronger than forecast breeze of circa 20 knots PRO Martyn Emberson warned competitors at Saturday's briefing that he planned to start on time and not to delay launching and this set the tone for the weekend; competitive, well run, friendly racing - an ideal match for the Topper class's ethos!

After three races around a "proper length" course on the Saturday the fleet returned ashore tired but happy. Eleven lucky sailors then managed to get out for a blast in two Nacra 15s thanks to the UK Nacra 15 Class Association.

Sunday dawned with wall-to-wall sunshine but lighter breezes to give some of the younger and less experienced sailors a chance to get in the mix. Having said that Leo Yates continued his dominance in the 5.3 fleet with bullets in races 4&5 to go with those from races 2&3 on Saturday.

Ethan Rhodes took the gun in races 4&5 in the 4.2 fleet but after his mixed bag of results from Saturday he couldn't close the gap to Thomas Semmens who finished on a high to take race 6.

As well as the overall prizes we also awarded prizes for the first sailor from each of the Southern, South West and London & SE regions outside the top three overall and also some endeavour awards which meant lots of prizewinners featured in the end of event photo!

As always many thanks to all the volunteers and WPNSA staff that made the weekend such a success. The final event in the Rooster Southern Summer Traveller Series will be at Stokes Bay SC on Sunday 17th July and entries are filling up fast...
