Snipe Open at Bough Beech Sailing Club

by Sue Roberts 27 Jun 2022 15:20 BST 25-26 June 2022

Congratulations to Peter Wolstenholme and Will Maguire for winning the Bough Beech SC Snipe open.

On Saturday racing started at midday with five races back-to-back in quite tricky and shifty wind conditions as can be commonly found at Bough Beech. Overnight there was very little between the top 3 boats with Matthew Wolstenholme/Lloyd Roberts winning Races 1and 3, Alan Williams/Liz Pike winning Race 2 and Peter Wolstenholme/Will Maguire winning Races 4 and 5.

Saturday evening was a Spanish affair with Paella and Sangria in bountiful supply. With the UK Snipe fleet having a North / South split, it was good to catch up with friends. Many camped overnight and awoke early to sunshine and geese honking.

On Sunday the breeze increased and the sun shone which resulted in some fantastic racing with the occasional swimming lesson taking place!

Racing was extremely close with Peter/Will winning the first and final race of the day whilst Matthew/Lloyd took Race 7. Final points after discards resulted in 9 points each but Peter and Will won on count back with Matthew/Lloyd pipped to 2nd and Alan/Liz in 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone who helped in making the event so successful but especially to those who travelled to be there. It was also great to see some Bough Beech sailors out on the water, many of whom it was their first outing in a Snipe. Hopefully they enjoyed it enough to join us again soon.

Next UK Snipe event will be the Nationals taking place in Plymouth 12th-14th August. Please contact Sue Roberts () for further details.
