Les Voiles d'Antibes at Société des Régates d'Antibes - Day 1

by Alexander Panzeri 3 Jun 2022 14:05 BST 1-5 June 2022

Day 1: sunshine, warm, light wind and wave normal, what it's needed, maybe 2[kts] and a bit more sparkling wave for the perfection. During the race, the condition were good enough to immortalize the hull and her wave, the elegance of the classic! Froude number docet!

The R.C. has been precise and the start of the big was on time, but not HALLOWE'EN - 2 15m IR, that overshoot the line.

The group on fire at the start is that with P-Class fleet and SCUD BH-12, with Bruno Troublé luffs up MYFANWY 18R to the stall zone, while Torben Grael, followed by Olympic P-14 was running for the pin.

Left the Tofinou alone to start, we have followed the fleet to the disengage mark, and mean while we have had time to go fishing, fishing of baseball cap, the bowman of ARCADIA III F-4429 has lost it during the tac...

Now the fleet fly in direction of Palm Beach (just before Cannes), while we went back to the port for a break.

Back to the zaffiro-field, we discovered from the R.C. that the wind has gone down a bit so some changes were in place...

The weather it's still not ok, and the breeze has difficult to fully develop, the clouds on the mountain are in place, however the time to arrive to the mark the pressure came back and the fleet is enjoying it: her majesty Cambria K-4 is flying beautifully away, the others were match-racing like as if there was no tomorrow. The P-Class with SCUD with distance react to every single tack, as the 6 Bermudan Yawl give up! The Tofinou fleet has used all vantages to be close to the rock of the Cap d'Antibes (I lost the numbers of time it has been used as panorama for a movie...).

At time to write, a surprise, Cambria, SKY and HALLOWE'EN - 2 are disqualified with NSC (and many others), MANITOU - 62 is DSQ (probably for the protest with EMILIA I-2 (not confirmed d/t bug in the access to the webpage).

Day 2 it's bit a nightmare, forecast say maybe rain in the noon, or not in the morning we will see...

The lack of the 15m IR and many others Fife creation (regatta in Scotland) doesn't change the result: Antibes is the Sailors kindergarten!

An azure sky with huge anvil clouds on the mountains Let's start from the end: Protests... I thought it was an easy day, was an azure sky with huge anvil clouds on the mountains at noon, low wind, shooting from the shore, finding a second lap on RIB, but it looks not with four protest on the table... Racing held under grey and heavy clouds Last night the cloud had deposited some drops of rain, about 6.5[cm] if you trust the iPhone app. Today the rain (a cluster of storms) has arrived after the race, probably making it difficult for the traditional Paella on the docks. Posted on 16 Sep 2021

Horizon full of sails going everywhere to catch the best they can Even though the north-north-east wind had changed at the starting line, the pin was still preferred, and as usual, this means some boats overshooting the start. Posted on 20 Sep 2020

The wind was really weak and the sea was flat like oil First of all some clarifications: Il Moro di Venezia I-7077 didn't arrive to Antibes, tomorrow I'll investigate the reasons; I've associated Bruno Troublé to the red Chip P-13, instead he is on the Corinthian P-5. Posted on 18 Sep 2020

The 25th edition has a different atmosphere to usual Finally, after three and half months of waiting, the 25th edition of the Les Voiles d'Antibes has opened. With the Canicola breeze, abnormal for the coast, and an Indian summer light, the old ladies are flying on the water. Posted on 17 Sep 2020
