RC Laser Spring Series at Fleetwood Model Yacht Club - Week 4

With a big handful of our Fleetwood Skippers headed north of the border to Sunny Scotland for the IOM Nationals, we were left with just 4 brave soldiers to make best of the last Laser outing of the Spring series.

John Armstrong was already lake side practising with a stock 'B' sail and must have been wondering, to whether it had been worth his while travelling the long distance in with a fickle wind coming in from an unfavoured barely South/South westerly direction.

Peter readied his boat and then went for a tidy up walk around the lake to remove the odd stick, bunch of fishing net debris, bicycle and whatever other floating objects may have been there ready to hinder our sailing.

We went for a rectangular box shape race course as John soon found out that we were able to beat up the lake in a somewhat fashion. Peter went for his Big sail along with Tony and Trevor was there for scoring and ready to join in with GBR 32.

John soon realised after losing out big time on the first race, that maybe he should increase sail size. Maybe we did only have a 6 MPH - 8MPH breeze as forecast despite the odd ducking of the bow while running, but you needed more cloth.

The races were barely taking much longer than 5 minutes a shot, but with it being overcast, a slight chill and light drizzle, we were in no great rush to make a big deal of the day and we were just as eager as Trevor to get the races in.

We managed a fairly respectable 8 races by lunch, with mixed results and as the drizzle off and on continued, we were happy to call it a day.

Results for the day:

1. Tony Wilson - 7 pts
2. Peter Isles - 9 pts
3. John Armstrong - 14 pts

Results for the Spring series 2022:

1. Shaun Holbeche - 300 pts
2. Erich Austwich - 230 pts
3. Tony Wilson - 224 pts

With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Posted on 6 Oct 2024
