This weekend (30th April – 2nd May) 68 of the country's best radio sailing skippers will descend on Castle Semple Loch near Lochwinnoch, south-west of Glasgow to battle for the 2022 International One Metre UK National Championship. Given the Covid situation, this is an impressive entry with skippers travelling from throughout the UK, USA, Sweden, Norway and Turkey to contend the title.

This event in the 2022 MYA IOM racing calendar is extremely important as selection for the IOM World Championship in Croatia later in the year is at stake. In attendance will be numerous World, European and National radio sailing champions among a fleet of well credentialed and experienced campaigners.

  • Brad Gibson – Windrush RYC
Winner of eight World Championships and multiple National Champion in different radio sailing classes over many years. 2021 UK IOM National Champion. Highly likely to be contesting for the podium. Brad will be sailing his trusty BritPOP! design.

  • Rob Walsh - Fleetwood
2013 IOM World Champion, 2015 IOM UK Champion. Another fine performance at the 2017 IOM Worlds to finish on the podium. Will be hungry for victory and looking to bolster the trophy cabinet with the 2022 title. Will be sailing his Brad Gibson BritPOP! design.

  • Peter Stollery – Guildford
2011 IOM World Champion, 2013 IOM UK Champion. You can guarantee Peter will be there once the scores have been tallied Monday afternoon. Will be sailing the six-year-old orange BritPOP! design used for 2011 World glory.

  • Graham Elliott – Birkenhead
2017 RG65 National Champion, 3rd 2011 IOM Worlds. 2nd 2021 UK IOM National Championship. You would be brave to bet against him. Will be sailing the sister ship to Gibson’s and Stollery's 11 year old BritPOP!

  • Martin Roberts – Birkenhead
Previous World, European and National Champion. Martin is vastly experienced and shows good form under pressure. Will be sailing the Craig Richard’s Vanilla design.

  • Graham Bantock – Chelmsford
Past IOM World, European and National Champion. Always one to watch, if the breeze goes light will be difficult to catch. Will be sailing his Akziom design.

  • Tony (Tiger) Edwards – Yeovil
2014 IOM National Champion, Past National 12 UK Champion. Tony always shines when the going gets tough. Could winning form return at the perfect time? Will be sailing a BritPOP! design.
Racing will get underway at 10:00 am on Saturday morning and will finish on Monday afternoon.
