After three days of the RYA Youth Nationals at Plas Heli, Pwllheli, the 420 class have completed 6 races in generally light conditions.
Day 3 was a day for a younger pairing to shine and Patrick Bromilow and Olivia Creasey, who only moved to the 420 class last summer, recorded a 3,4,4 which has given them a clear lead in the under 17 age group and now places them third overall.
It was also a day for Black flags and two of the race winners on the water, Megan Farrer & Ellie Rush and George Creasey & David Bromilow fell foul of this. However, both of these crews won another race during the day which was some compensation. Megan & Ellie are the leading female sailors in the competition.
Overall you needed to start well and quickly get in phase with the wind shifts. Overtaking was difficult, and those who did not start well got high scores" said series leader Ollie Meadowcroft.
There are now two days left with 5 races scheduled for Thursday and a maximum of 14 in the series in total. Oliver Meadowcroft & Oscar Cawthorne are tied at the top with Henry Heathcote & Hector Bennett. 3 points cover the top 4 places with a whole load of sailors then behind seeking to get into that group. The forecasts seem to have a bit more wind for Thursday and they intend to launch at 0900. What will happen?
