It's the most popular and biggest one-design sportboat class in the world. The J/70 class arrived in Spain in 2015 and it joined the Copa del Rey MAPFRE last year for the first time ever.
In 2022, the J/70s will return to the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, which will be held from July 30 to August 6. But, before that, there will be two other events on the bay of Palma that will host the J/70 class. They are the 51st Princess Sofía Trophy, the regatta co-organized by the Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and the Real Club Náutico de Palma which will be held in the month of April, and the 18th PalmaVela, in which they will race from May 6 to 8. All these regattas will be a good testing ground for the J/70 World Championship in 2024 that will be organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma.
The 40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma and the Real Federación Española de Vela (Spanish Sailing Federation), and is sponsored by MAPFRE with institutional collaboration from the Govern de les Illes Balears (Balearic Islands Government), the Ayuntamiento de Palma (Palma Town Hall), the Autoritat Portuaria de Balears (Baleares Port Authority), and the Federación Balear de Vela (Balearic Islands Sailing Federation).
Here are the details for each event:
- Mar 30- Apr 3 - 52nd Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia
- May 5-8 - PalmaVela Regatta
- Jul 30- Aug 6 - 40th Copa del Rey MAPFRE
