The Bartley Beast at Bartley Sailing Club - Overall

by John Ling 15 Feb 2022 09:38 GMT 12 February 2022

The last Bartley Beast event brought in very strong winds with some gusts recorded at 42knots!! So a disappointed group of sailors were held ashore until eventually OD Steve Ward cancelled racing for the day.

It has been a great series of events which Mark Reddington created back in 2021 to open up Bartley Sailing Club to anyone that fancied a thrilling sailing experience and to enjoy the fun and friendship that Bartley has to offer.

During the event we saw 45 single handers and 20 Double (equating to 95 sailors) racing. The winds were very strong which provided some awesome sailing, albeit at times in tough cold conditions. Fortunately we did have some batches of lovely sunshine in November and January which helped set the backdrop to Champaign sailing conditions.

The sailing committee and members have worked hard to deliver the event and our various OOD's have, with their many support teams, delivered great courses containing beats, runs and fast reaches in winds ranging from 17knts to gusts in the high 30/40knts, this as you can imagine provided spectacular viewing from the shore line.

Doublehanders

Paul Young and Jan Kimber in their Enterprise kept battling throughout the series in these blustery conditions and won the double handers from Mark Reddington and Colin/Lewis in their Albacore, closely followed by Nigel & Freya Hudson in their Merlin.

1st Paul Young & Jan Kimber (Enterprise) 36pts
2nd Mark Reddington & Lewis/Colin (Albacore) 58pts
3rd Nigel & Freya Hudson (Merlin Rocket) 61pts
4th Matt Biggs & Mark Fowler (Albacore) 63pts
5th Sam Knight & Chris Bownes (RS400) 63pts

Singlehanders

John Ling in his ILCA took the series win and the overall 'Beast Champion' title closely followed by Les Druyf in his Laser. 3rd was Simon Hardiman and 4th Oliver Ridgway in their ILCA/Lasers. Then Steve Ward in his Phantom just holding off Millie Hardiman our first Youth in her ILCA 4.

1st John Ling (ICLA 7) 27pts
2nd Les Druyf (Laser) 38pts
3rd Simon Hardiman (Laser) 56pts
4th Oliver Ridgway (Laser) 57pts
5th Steve Ward (Phantom) 70pts
