Five members of the sailing community have been recognised with award in the Order of Australia for their services to the sport in this year's Australia Day Honours list.

The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement.

"Australian Sailing would like to congratulate and thank those individuals who were recognised with an award this year," said Australian Sailing President Daniel Belcher.

"These are people who have given so much of themselves to their local clubs and to our sport, from the grass roots up to our recent Olympic gold medallists. They have been rightfully recognised with some of the highest civilian honours our country has to offer, so we join with every other Australian in congratulating them on their achievements."

Those from the sailing community who received awards included:

  • Mr Martin Hill AM (Middle Harbour Yacht Club & Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron) - For significant service to business, to sailing, and to the community
  • Mr Kevin Owens AM (Fremantle Sailing Club & South of Perth Yacht Club) - For significant service to sailing through a range of organisations and roles
  • Mr William Ryan OAM (Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron & Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron) - For service to sport as a gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020
