Light winds and fog greeted the team of nine for Round 2 of the Winter Series. No decision to be made and the A rig was the only sail of choice.

The course set attempted to provide a beat but with the oscillating wind through 20 degrees the first beat of the triangle sausage course was often completed direct from the start line.

Race 1 saw all eager and on the line but Jamie Blair managed to get ahead of the whole fleet for a first windward mark rounding and to lead for the rest of the race.

The patchy wind provided pockets of no wind and allowed good results for names that would not normally be near the front. Andrew Nicholls before our normal break pulled together a number of bullets and second places so he was top of the leader board after race 3. He remained top of the board after race 5 with Jon Moon close behind and Jamie Blair in third.

We had the pleasure of a National Judge to create some order after Race 1 and to insist on penalty turns. He also called a number over for race 6 as well as two General Recalls.

At the coffee and bacon roll break Jon Moon had taken the lead from Andrew and still with Jamie trailing in third. We were thankful of the roaring log burner in the Café to warm our child hands.

After coffee with the wind still very light and shifty the lead changed but it was nip and tuck between Jon and Jamie and Jamie coming out best but only a few points. Race wins shared between 1st and 5th. Individual race podiums all the way down to 5th place – So after only round 2 the fleet is super competitive.

The next session is on Sunday 2nd January... we hope.

Big waves and gusty winds up to 35 knots As forecast, we would see winds from the SSW and starting at 15 knots. The direction SSW and with the gusts it felt more like 18-20kts. No question on rig size - the smallest D rig. Posted on 24 Feb

With a race within a race for the Johnson family The wind was blowing from the clubhouse direction for the ten RC Laser entries. It looked to be a stock 'B' rig all-dayer, but with the light patch at the entry point, a bit of extra sail cloth helps you get through the lulls. Posted on 6 Oct 2024
