The AGM of the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) was held virtually today 18th December'21.
Dr. Malav Shroff President ASAF thanked everyone for attending the meeting and
touched upon the uncertainty that Covid has brought in and hoped for a better year
ahead with events commencing in the New Year.
President ASAF thanked Oman Sail for successfully hosting the Olympic qualifier for the
Tokyo Olympics for Asia and Africa and also congratulated the Tokyo Olympic organizers
for pulling off what was a huge task with aplomb and superlative perfection and said
that in the coming year the Hangzhou Asian Games was the event to look forward to and
was hoping that the Games would be conducted successfully.
Thanking ASAF Partners RS Sailing and Element 6 Evolution Co Ltd, Dr. Malav
commented that partnership with RS Sailing and Element 6 Evolution Co Ltd, will
help develop Sailing in Asia by taking it to higher levels.
The various ASAF Committee Chairs - Women's, Youth & Development, Events,
Technical, Para Sailing and Keelboat Committee - provided valuable inputs from their
respective individual committee meetings and discussed the future roadmap, all
focussing towards the key message of developing the sport of Sailing in Asia.
An update on the Hangzhou Asian Games was presented by Capt Abdur Rehman
Arshad (Retd) - Technical Delegate for the Games, which provided an overview of the
facilities and preparations being undertaken by the Hangzhou Asian Games
Organizing Committee (HAGOC) and the ASAF Technical Committee.
Esteemed partners of ASAF, Element 6 and RS Sailing, helmed by Mr. John Higham
(CCO - Element 6 Evolution Co Ltd) and Mr. Dan Jaspers (International Sales and
Business Development RS Sailing) covered the entire gamut of sailing activities that
will help promote sailing from the Grassroots to the Olympic level.
The meeting concluded on a positive note and was well received by all the attendees.
