The 43rd Annual Changing of Colors Regatta was hosted by Fleet 24 and The Lake George Club in Diamond Point, NY on October 1-3. Twenty-eight J/24s were registered with five races completed on the spectacular Lake George in the Adirondack Mountain range.
In the end, long-time J/24 veteran Kirk Reynolds' Tyrus tallied only firsts and seconds to secure first place with 6 net points. Rob Lambert's Barley from Conanicut Yacht Club in Jamestown, Rhode Island made the 7-hour drive to sail in the famous regatta. His efforts were rewarded by taking the silver medal with 11 pts. Meanwhile, local Finger Lakes Canandaigua Lake J/24 fleet sailor, Mike Stasko's Redline, completed the podium by taking the bronze with 14 pts.
The usual Saturday evening cook-out and party on the waterfront terrace was well-attended by the 150+ sailors that were on hand for the event. It was a welcome return to what had made the Changing of Colors Regatta such a famous and "bucket list" event for many J/24 sailors across the USA; the socializing all evening long and getting back together in such a spectacular, picturesque setting is what it's all about- fun and friends!
