Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship at Boston - Day 4

by International Snipe Class 25 Sep 2021 06:25 BST 21-25 September 2021

Ominous skies and an impending forecast kept all Snipe competitors ashore for most of the day with AP over H raised early in the morning. Keeping a watchful eye on the radar, PRO Matt Hill and SCIRA Representative Jimmie Lowe made the call at 2pm to lower the flags and head out. Sailors were met with warm temperatures and beautiful breeze in the 12-16 knot range with a short chop on Boston Harbor.

Race 7 begin around 3pm with a general recall but the second start was clear and the fleet was off. The Guatemalan team of Diego Silvestre /Marisleysis Cedeno tacked off the start and hit the right side, rounding second behind Ernesto Rodriguez/Kathleen Tocke (USA) followed by Alfonso Garcia Bringas/Andre Guaragna (MEX) and Matias & Constanza Seguel (CHI). After several windward/leeward legs, Rodriguez/Tocke finished first with Garcia Bringas/Guaragna second and Matias Poncell/Christian Obermoller (CHI) in third and Arthur Blodgett/Gracie Howie (USA) crossing fourth. Augie Diaz/Barbie Brotons rounded the weather mark in last but managed to grind through the fleet to post a 17, his discard. The points were now tight with Rodriguez/Tocke 1 point behind Diaz/Brotons.

The RC took no time in starting the next race, under the U flag and 5 teams were caught including Rodriguez/Tocke who lead the race crossing first, only to learn they were caught under the U flag. Then fleet hit the right side hard with more pressure and and ebb current. Winning race 8 was the local team of Jim Bowers/Julia Marsh Rabin (USA) with Matias & Constanza Seguel (CHI) having a great day posting a 5-3 which moved them into third overall. But the day winners were Alfonso Garcia Bringas and Andre Guaragna (MEX) who posted a 2-5.

Provisional results as of this release: (top five)

1. Diaz/Brotons (USA) 25pts
2. Blodgett/Howie (USA) 35pts
3. Seguel/Seguel (CHI) 39pts
4. Rodriguez/Tocke (USA) 46pts
5. Bowers/Marsh Rabin (USA) 49pts
