Hadron H2 Nationals at Herne Bay Sailing Club start today

by Keith Callaghan 3 Sep 2021 06:36 BST 3-5 September 2021

The largest Hadron H2 event to date is due to take place from Friday, 3rd September to Sunday, 5th September, and it promises to be a cracker.

Ian Sanderson, national champion for the last three years, will not be competing this year. Richard Leftley, who so very nearly beat Ian last year, has a new boat and is on top form - he was the winner of the open meetings at Warsash and Itchenor earlier this year. However, Nick Craig's decision to participate in the H2 event instead suffering the bureaucracy and uncertainties of travelling to Austria for the Devoti D-one Europeans has put things in a new light. Richard and Nick did quite a lot of training together in their H2s last winter and while Richard was competitive upwind, he says that Nick was something else offwind.

Apart from those two, there are several newcomers to the fleet who have shown impressive speed, as well as some regulars who continually improve their game - so who knows?

Dougal Henshall has agreed to be our PRO again and is in familiar territory at Herne Bay SC where he knows the race team well. HBSC are celebrating their centenary this year and the H2s are looking forward to a great event. Watch our daily reports over the next three days!
