Today was absolute perfection. Flatwater and stable wind brought the Persico 69F to life and the sailors were fizzing like their foils. It was a day for the upstart teams, with Fraglia Vela Riva and Team France both taking hard-fought wins. Indeed, the team from Riva, helmed by current Laser Youth World champion Mattia Cesana, shared share the same score previously undefeated Dutch team, both scoring two wins and a second-place apiece.
These victories came from flying match races, as the top two boats consistently broke away from the rest of the fleet in a private battle. A testament to the developing depth in the fleet, four different teams won today, although Team DutchSail - Janssen de Jong still maintain a dominant lead after 20 races completed.
Conrad Colman: "We had absolutely perfect conditions at day 4 of qualifying at the Youth Foiling Gold Cup here on Lake Garda. Super flat water and good breeze that made for really tight racing. I think quite a lot of teams put together laps that were almost 100% foiling. We had some really tight battles with really interesting racing so overall, an awesome day on the water.
It's really exciting to see that all our training is paying off and we're doing so well. But we live for the racing, so to see all the other teams growing and the racing getting tighter is awesome. It gives us a lot of energy to see how the future of this class might develop"
