Fernhurst books to support RS classes Endeavour prizes

by Sally Campbell 12 Aug 2021 16:16 BST

The RS Class Association are well known for sharing the love throughput their fleets, making sure that all sailors, whatever their level, have a chance to win prizes.

Building on the Endeavour Prize at Rooster National Tour events, the Class Association have teamed up with Fernhurst books to create an Endeavour prize at this year's Noble Marine National Championships.

This new prize of a book voucher will be awarded to the last sailor to finish all races in each of the following fleets: RS100, RS200, RS300, RS400, RS600, RS700 and RS800 classes.

In addition for this year's Noble Marine West Country Boat Repairs RS200 Nationals, Fernhurst have donated 3 copies of The Asymmetric Dinghy Book by Andy Rice and 3 copies of Crewing to Win, by Saskia Clark, to be awarded to daily winners in the bronze fleet. Both contain photo sequences of the RS200 and tips from expert RS200 sailors, Rob Henderson and Dave Hivey.

In Crewing to Win, Saskia draws on her experience of dedicating 12 years of her life to attending 3 Olympic Games and winning a gold and silver medal. The book takes you through getting starting as a team, before the focus turns to racing. Britain's most successful female sailor, Hannah Mills says "Any crew would benefit from reading this book, it will improve your skills and make you a better team, whether you are just sailing at your local club or competing Internationally".

The Asymmetric Dinghy Book is written by champion sailor and journalist Andy Rice, who has gleaned tips and advice from expert sailors in a range of classes. Every stage of asymmetric sailing is covered, including rigging and tuning, hoists, gybes and drops, tactics and survival sailing.

Fernhurst specialise in books for watersports enthusiasts, saying "If you want to get wet, we have a book on it; whether you are a racing sailor, cruiser, motorboater, diver, paddler, surfer, swimmer or fisherman."
