Grafham Water Sailing Club is inviting members of the public and their families to come and try sailing and stand-up paddleboarding at the club's Sail for Cancer Day being held on Wednesday 18th August.

The day is being held to raise awareness of male breast cancer and to help raise funds for the Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon.

The Woodlands Centre is very important to club member Richard Edwards who was diagnosed with male breast cancer in 2019, and who after extensive treatment is now back sailing again.

"Breast cancer is quite rare in men. There are about 350 men diagnosed each year in the UK, compared to around 55,000 cases in women," said Richard "Sailing was an important part of my recovery and I want to raise awareness of the condition and to recognise the important role that sailing had in my recovery."

The sailing and paddleboard sessions will be run at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. There will be no charge for the sessions but a donation to the charity would be appreciated. Light refreshments will be available from 1pm and a barbeque from 4pm.

Visitors are also welcome to stay and watch a special sponsored Sail for Cancer club race being held at 7pm.

Please book a session online or register on the day if capacity allows.

Mike Edwards, commodore of Grafham Water SC said, "I am pleased to see the club supporting male breast cancer, an important but relatively unknown cause. We look forward to welcoming people to the club to try sailing and paddleboarding."

Grafham Water Sailing Club is located in Perry, near Huntingdon. The club is open to everyone and offers sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding, training courses and racing for the competitive sailor.

The Woodlands Centre is part of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust Charity (Registered Charity No. 1050601) exists to support the Trust in providing the best possible healthcare to their patients.
