Six boats took part in the first Northern Series meeting of the year. A beautiful hot sunshine was the order of the day in the Pennines of West Yorkshire, but unfortunately the wind - although breezy at times and sometimes planing weather - was often in short demand.

The Open started at 1pm giving people plenty of time to arrive. Competitors had driven far and wide; the furthest visitors were Rachel Heesom & Beverly Howe, Tynemouth and Notts County. Our OD Ben Ratcliffe and team for the day set a great course and we all started in the best wind of the day.

Steve Blackburn & Tim Brownell WLYC / L&LSC where first round the windward mark followed by Mike & Jack Goodwin SWSC and Oll Bodcork & Luke Hartshaw SWSC. The course was a beat to the top of the lake, a run, a reach, back on a run, a reach and a nice long beat. There were no position change to the finish. Ian Turnell & Oscar Grundy SWSC finished fourth, Rachel & Beverly in fifth, and Alan & Will Grudman SWSC sixth.

After a quick break we started race 2. Again Steve & Tim took an early lead with Mike & Jack in second and and Oll and Luke in third. The wind was switching on and off and swinging direction.

The pack of Ents swallowed up Oll & Mike on the run. The next competitor to hit a hole was Steve on the last run and was overtaken by Mike and Oll with a gust coming through. Mike & Jack went onto win the race. Steve overtook Oll finishing second and Oll in third.

Race 3 soon approached. Again Steve took the lead and pulled away, only to be caught up on the last lap. Mike was again chasing him down. The beat had turned to a reach and Mike was closing in on Steve.

As the finish line was nearing Steve manage to find the wind before Mike and finished in first with Mike and change of crew (his daughter) in second. Oll was again in third.

Everyone enjoyed their day at Scammonden and are looking forward to next time.

Overall Results:

1st - 23310 Steve Blackburn & Tim Brownell WLYC L&LSC
