After the first week of racing in Porto Cervo during the Grand Prix 2.0 of the Persico 69F Cup, there's a familiar team leading the rankings. The home team, Young Azzurra, led by Ettore Botticini and crewed by Federico Colonnino, Erica Ratti and Francesca Bergamo, won ahead of the Swiss Okalys Youth Project in second place and FlyingNikka 74 in third.
Young Azzurra team won the last Grand Prix in Malcesine in May and will return to Lake Garda in August for the second round of the Youth Foiling Gold Cup. In the meantime, the team, and their coach, are revelling in the challenging conditions of their home waters. Team coach Gabriele Bruni comments: "Finally, we are back to sail with the Persico 69F in the home waters! We did some training on Lake Garda, but sailing the sea will be different: different waves, more unstable wind, more challenging conditions for foiling. The training days before regattas will be essential to get back into the rhythm on saltwater".
Following the first week of the regatta, Ettore Botticini, skipper of Young Azzurra commented. "We're glad that we managed to get eight races in on the final day of 2.1 here in Porto Cervo. We were sailing in a sheltered area that is very tricky because the wind was unstable. Nevertheless, the team sailed really well, and we managed to win the majority of today's races. We couldn't feel better and are charged up and ready for next week's event".
The Persico 69F Cup is a turn-key series regattas on the revolutionary Persico 69F foiling racing yacht for three crew and can be chartered for a single event or for the whole season. In parallel, there is the Youth Foiling Gold Cup for U25 sailors, many teams in the Persico 69F Cup include sailing's future professionals who are maximizing their flight time by sailing in both fleets. Sailors like those in Young Azzurra, but also Swiss sailors David Biedermann and Max Haenssler who finished GP 2.1 on the second step of the podium and who will bring the fight to the Italian teams in GP 2.2!
The Grand Prix 2.2 in the Persico 69F Cup will be held at the YCCS from July 15 to 17. During the three days of racing, the current champions will face off against eight other teams: Okalys Youth Project, Sailing Performance and Tixwave/Timeon from Grand Prix 2.1, and new teams Groupe My Ambition, Section 16, Balthasar, Swiss Dental Solutions and GoatPower by Ulika.
