Llandegfedd Sailing Club successfully hosted the return of the Welsh Topper Open Championships last weekend. The event has been missing from our calendars the last couple of years and it's great to have it back on the map.

Topper sailors of all abilities turned out; it was a delight to see more novice sailors joining some of our best Topper sailors from Wales and England. Competitors travelled down from London, from the South Coast and the Midlands, and of course from all over Wales.

We had wonderful sunshine, good breeze, a few damp periods, and some big shifts, nevertheless we had some superb racing expertly managed by our race officer Bill Jackson. Bill said, "it's great to see the event back at Llandegfedd and it's really impressive to see the start line discipline of these young sailors".

Everyone said how much they enjoyed the event and hoped it would be a permanent fixture once more in the Topper sailing calendar.

Congratulations to Bjorn Handley: first 5.3 boy and Overall Winner; Noah Wood: second 5.3 boy and First Welsh Boat; Kaitlyn Wyatt: first 5.3 girl and Harry Sims: first 4.2 rig.

"It was a great, well organized event in challenging conditions; I thoroughly enjoyed it, and am very proud to be first Welsh sailor," commented Noah Wood.
