RS Aero UK Northern Championship at Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club

A Yorkshire Dales SC welcome was extended to members and travelling guests from as far as Scotland and Devon. The weather was an ideal Force 2-4 North East throughout the weekend with the usual blue skies and sunshine that are frequent place at Grimwith Reservoir. Great racing was provided by the excellent RO, attendant safety crew and brilliant refreshments provided by the efficient and high quality galley staff.
Saturday racing was dominated by the RS Aero 7's with home club sailor Phil Whitehead taking 3 wins closely pursued by travelling sailor Robby Lawson from East Lothian YC in Scotland and Ellie Craig of Starcross YC, Devon. The second day proved just a little too much for the stamina of Whitehead who, despite the brave fight, was pipped to the post by Lawson for the win in the RS Aero 7's.
The competition in the RS Aero 5's was a formidable force with Jamie Rastrick consistently at the top of the fleet, closely followed by Beth Millar.
In addition to the Class results a PY set was also produced to give an overall results sheet. This gave the RS Aero 5's a consistent win over the RS Aero 7's with Jamie Rastrick out in front. Robert Lawson took 2nd with Beth Miller in 3rd.
Many a thanks were extended to Yorkshire Dales sailing club for their excellent event that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Next up for the Northern UK RS Aeros is the RS Aero Midlands Champs at Staunton Harold SC on the 24th July followed by the rearranged RS Aero UK River Championships at Nottingham SC on the Trent on 14th August. The Class looks forward to good countrywide participation at this year's UK Nationals at Hayling with over 100 RS Aeros already entered!
