2021 WASZP European Games Venue Change - Now heading for Lake Garda

by WASZP Class 18 Jun 2021 18:57 BST 11-15 August 2021
2021 WASZP European Games to be held on Lake Garda © WASZP class

Unfortunately, due to uncertainty around Covid travel restrictions entering Norway, WASZP Class management have made the tough decision to change the venue for the European Championships.

We would like to thank our friends at Sandefjord Seilforening and the Norwegian WASZP association, who have been outstanding partners throughout this process. They are completely supportive of this decision and have always kept the needs of the sailors in mind. Our relationship with Sandefjord is just beginning and we are already planning when we will return to Sandefjord and deliver a major championship together.

While we are extremely disappointed not to have the event in Norway and reward our Scandinavian sailors, it has provided an opportunity to try another venue on the amazing shores of Lake Garda. We are heading to Circola Vela Arco in the province of Trentino. This part of the lake has been extremely popular with WASZP sailors due to its relaxed beach party lifestyle and great summer breezes (Ora). We must thank Circolo Vela Arco for being so accommodating to the WASZP Class and allowing us to keep the same date range as the Norwegian event. We have done everything possible to allow minimal disruption to the sailors' calendars for this event and we envisage the event being extremely popular given the location, timing and ability to travel!

The 2021 WASZP European Games are due to take place this summer on 11th-15th August at Circola Vela Arco, Italy. With the 11th being SLALOM racing and the 12-15th Championship racing. Entries are now open via RaceHub racehub.waszp.com/eventdetail/31 and sailors are encouraged to sign up! If you have already entered the event your entry remains valid. We are maintaining our ENTER NOW > PAY LATER policy.

You will be able to deliver your boat on-site from the 9th of August onwards, allowing a couple of days training before the main event.

With light at the end of the Covid tunnel, WASZP is looking forward to welcoming back its sailors at the premier event for the European season. We are still aiming for over 100 boats to attend the European WASZP Games, which is on track to showcase the largest ever WASZP fleet as we welcome back major events for 2021. Despite a difficult 2020, WASZP is set to go full throttle in 2021!

Now that sailing is back on the agenda this year, the momentum of the class is building faster than ever. WASZP surpassed the 1000 boat milestone at the end of 2020 and is on track to achieve an all-time record of boat sales this quarter as more and more sailors are drawn to the unbeatable culture and events that WASZP offers. As we speak, extra boats are being shipped to agents to address the unprecedented demand. Those interested in purchasing a boat and becoming part of the revolution can head to the WASZP website to be connected with their nearest agent. We also have limited amount of stock landing in Italy prior to the European Championships. So if you want a boat for the event, there is no better time to get in contact with our EU Hub manager

Europeans Entry

Sailors should head to RaceHub to submit their entry. Sailors must be members of the International WASZP Class to compete at the European Games. Class membership can also be purchased through RaceHub after creating an account. We have endeavoured to keep the entry fee as low as possible at €210, which we feel is outstanding value. Please see the Notice of Race for further details.

WASZP is highly optimistic that the event will go ahead with full force, with restrictions easing on travel to and from Italy. If Covid restrictions put limitations on the event, WASZP will implement measures that allow the event to go ahead safely. If restrictions mean a safe event is not possible and the event is cancelled, all entry fees will be refunded.

Please see the Notice of Race for further details.
