Light winds on the first day
37 teams sailed out of the SSA this wednesday for the first two races of the 2006 Soling World Championship being held in Annapolis, the sailing capital of the US.
Light winds and summer temperatures with a shine day just allowed one race
with a second one that had to be abandoned.
The Canadian GUL Hans Fogh, Roger Cheers and Goron Devries with all the experience a good start, being in the right places for the shifts finished first the 6 leg windward/leward with a small reach after the downwind mark that included a gate that a few teams leading the race like Team
T-SystemsHUN 77 Wossala, Vezer and Nemeth or CAN 1 Abbott, Davis, Abbott didn´t rounded properly and had to come back into the one.
The German ES Plastic team (GER 267) with Alex Holl, Norbert Helligegel and
Thomas Olbrich finished second after sailing a nice race and showing all the
experience aquired in the former DDR Soling training camps. UFO team from
Netherlands NED 25 Johan Offermans, Peter Mosch, Bas Dusee finished third.
The best US team finshing the race today was from Connecticut USA 831 Peter
Gallowey, Paul Steinborn, Greg Anthony who managed to finshed in front of
local legend USA 841 Stuart Walker, Doug Loup and Bruce Empey.
Tomorrow three races are scheduled but weather lookslike will be the same,
with light winds and maybe increasing to the afternoon.
