2021 WASZP European Championships - statement

We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely in Norway and the rest of Europe. Restrictions in place at present would make the event unfeasible, but with vaccine programs rolling out worldwide and EU Digital COVID Certificates launching, there is a chance that restrictions will lift to allow for a safe and successful championship in Sandefjord.

Both organisers, WASZP and Sandefjord Seilforening, are motivated for the event to go ahead. We know how much the WASZP fleet want to race and will do what we can to make that happen.

The safety of our sailors, yacht club members and their relatives is of the highest importance. We are taking this matter very seriously and we will consider all the relevant government guidance before making the final call.

We will review the situation over the coming weeks, with a final decision deadline of 8 July.

We would like to thank you for your patience in what is an incredibly difficult time for international competition.

What to do now:

We request that sailors wishing to attend the European Championships in Sandefjord do the following:

Register your entry here. We need to get a realistic estimate on the number of entries we can expect so that we can plan the resources needed and plan for any relevant COVID protocols that may need to be in place. There is no requirement to pay until 14 July. If the event is cancelled, all entry fees already paid will be refunded.

Research the COVID restrictions relevant to you. They are the restrictions for leaving your country, entering Norway and returning to your country. There may also be relevant restrictions for transiting other countries. Keep track of any changes to your country's COVID rules.

Check your status for vaccination. The more sailors that are vaccinated, the better our chances of a great event.
